Details surrounding Lil Wayne’s upcoming Welcome Home concert have been unveiled and New York City’s Madison Square Garden is one of the possible locations it may take place.
According to Young Money president Mack Maine, Weezy would have his artists open up for him.
“I think the [Madison Square] Garden would be perfect. I wanna keep it Young Money. I think we can hold our own. As far as his set, it would be nice to have features and cameos on his set. As far as who opens for him, it’ll be a no-brainer, Young Money could hold it down. Just have the big features on Wayne’s set. He’s gonna have a show, then go to the studio. I just had a birthday recently. I had four parties for my birthday. For him, it’s no telling how that week would go, how that month would go. Five months [would go]. We’re gonna party like when Frank came home in ‘King of New York.’ We’re gonna go crazy.” (MTV)
The show was announced by Drake during a Ustream broadcast earlier this month.
A fitting homecoming is already being planned for Lil Wayne. The day after he is expected to be released from jail, the Cash Money rapper will celebrate by throwing a welcome home concert. Drake made the announcement during his Ustreamsession on Thursday, saying it would take place on November 5, but an exact location was not disclosed. Drizzy has a show the day before in Los Angeles and the day after in Las Vegas. Lil Wayne is serving his time at Rikers Island in New York. “Undisclosed location, November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” said Wayne’s protégé while sipping on Pinot Grigio in his Toronto crib. “You might as well camp out at all different locations. That’s gonna be crazy.” (Rap-Up)
Still awaiting an early November release for his gun conviction, Wayne has kept fans up-to-date with his prison experience through occasional blogs.
“Well ain’t nothing going on in here but the time, which seems like it’s taking forever,” Wayne wrote in his new blog entry titled Just Another Day. “I’m trying to make the most out of every second tho, mentally. There’s some pretty cool people in here. Even though this isn’t a cool place to be. I’ve learned plenty already and the best lesson is to not come back. Last night, I kicked a** in UNO! Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. Just thought I’d let y’all know. Gotta stay hydrated. Though it’s hot, I still work out. Now don’t be expecting me to look like Hercules when I get out, but I should be a little bulky. I guess. Anyways, please remember to always check for your name in the “thank yous”. I’m always reading letters and responding…” (Weezy Thanx You)
Earlier this month, Wayne gave his first Rikers Island radio interview to New York radio host Funkmaster Flex.
“I’ll definitely move more carefully,” Wayne told radio personality Funkmaster Flex about precautions he will take after leaving Rikers Island in November. “Everybody says you’re here for a reason, so, I promise you Flex, I try to find that reason everyday. I think when I get out, that’ll be the only time I’ll know the answer…[I'm Not A Human Being EP] will drop before Tha Carter IV, only on the Internet. It’s stuff I recorded right before I came in. I don’t want the phone to hang-up on us so I want to say thank-you to all my fans and I love you Flex for giving me this opportunity…” (In Flex We Trust)
No further details have been revealed as of now.

The long awaited video for my favorite track from “Thank Me Later”, and the best video Drake’s done so far. Well done. Don’t take my word for it though, watch.
All Greenscreen. All The Time.
Presumably shot in the few weeks Wayne had before going to Prison.
From MTV:
“I’m gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song: keep us afloat till he gets back,” Drake said on the set of his “Over” video. “You won’t even notice he’s gone. Promise.”
Last week, Wayne was sentenced to a year in jail for a 2007 gun-possession charge, but Drake knows his leader will be OK.
“Lil Wayne is a legend,” Drake said. “I could never classify Wayne as victim. He’s too strong to me. Wayne is who he wants to be. People don’t understand. It’s really not an act. Lil Wayne is a character you’ll rarely run across, probably for the existence of human beings. He is that guy. He is Lil Wayne for a reason. He’s a rock star, a visionary, a workaholic. He doesn’t function like anybody I know. He’s a rare breed.
From MTV:
“I’m shooting seven videos today,” said Wayne, in his trailer on-set in Miami, in a brand-new clip you’ll see here exclusively.
One of the videos of the night was for the Rebirth track “Runnin.”
“I’mma show y’all the [work] ethic of a true artist,” Wayne says in the clip. “You know what I’m talkin’ about? Seven videos. I shot 10 in two days before. Now we about to do seven in one night. ['Runnin'] was one. Next we about to do Drake’s song called ‘Afrika Boombatta.’ “
Wayne’s work ethic = best in the game.

Dipset in The Booth, c. 2003
BET’s Rap City has the distinction of being the longest running Hip-Hop video show, running from 1989-2008. Along the way, it of course went through different hosts & phases (shout to Big Lez, Joe Clair, Prince Dejour, and of course “The Mayor” Chris Thomas), but (to me) Tha Bassment era was the best of them all.
To me, the ritual of coming home & turning on BET @ 4pm to catch “the latest & greatest in Hip-Hop” [(c) Big Tig] was second to none. Of course, the show is remembered for its classic freestyles in “The Booth.” Every rapper from that era know they had to go in the booth and drop a hot 16 (or a verse from their upcoming album SMH).

After Big Tig left in 2005, the show changed formats and hosts, and took a turn for the worse. While the booth remained, there were few reasons to watch the show as the YouTube era was in full swing. With ratings on the decline, BET canceled Rap City in 2008.
More classic freestyles as you continue on.
